Franklin contributionship fire mark

It was used in the United States from the early 1700”s through to the mid  1800”s
Benjamin Franklin started the first insurance company in the U.S. and had reinsurance
Thru Lloyds of London. He quickly discovered because structures were built close together and out of wood , a natural material, one of his insured would be in danger because the fire typically travelled if in close proximity.
He (Franklin) started the first fire department ( fire company ) in the United States to put out a fire for his insured customers.   The fire mark below would be placed on the outside of the insured building to show they had insurance and therefore fire protection services.
The below is the actual franklin contributionship fire mark.  It’s made of cast iron and rather large.   The number would symbolize the customer number.
